Nativity
Sweet Nativity

Postcard from: Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Received: December 2011.
Language: Latin.
Envelope: yes.

Lion letter-box
Roar! Feed me letters!

Gorgeous stamp featuring an open-mouthed lion with a castle on its head 19th century letter-box. No idea where it is located although I have spotted some similar in Alicante and Valencia. I sent this stamp to Japan.

Updated 12/1/12:

Nativity stamp
The Manger: Baby, donkey and ox

The first Christmas card of the season arrived today. A plain bright red envelope with a single small stamp gave me very good vibrations. The stamp is simply gorgeous.

Outside
Outside...

What else could I expect from a comicbook reader friend? A comic-strip card. Fun!

Inside
... Inside

And I must confess I totally fell for it. He didn't buy her a diamond necklace! I also feel cheated, Mrs. Penguin.

Postcard from: Hertfordshire, England.
Received: December 2011.
Language: English.
Envelope: yes.
Stamps: one Christmas (Luke 2:7) small 68p stamp.

Japanese stamps
Japanese stamps are always beautifully created

A letter from my Japanese penpal. She writes lovely letters with the most beautiful handwriting and always uses different letter sets. So far I have received 5 letters and she never repeated! Also the stamps she uses are really cool. This time, two of them are a set featuring a history battle -- my guess as I cannot understand Japanese.

Decorated letter
A ribbon and mashi tape on the back of the envelope. Lovely!

She also decorates letters with the most interesting stuff you could ever imagine. Today the envelope was white with some fade flowers in a corner. Very elegant and feminine. As the back looked very plane, she decorated it with washi tape and a tiny ribbon. Yay!

Letter from: Tahara-city, Aichi, Japan.
Received: November 2011.
Language: English.
Stamps: one ¥10 stamp with a bug and two ¥50 with a history battle (please correct me if I am wrong).

Palmeral
Palm grove
This is the second Spanish postcard I send to Greenland. This one is from my hometown and shows three different views of the palm grove (UNESCO World Heritage Site). I didn't take any picture of the other one before I sent it but it was nice too.

Butterfly stamp
Charaxes iasius
And this is the stamp that is now being sold in Spain for European post. I really like it when they feature animals and nature (and include their scientific name!). My handwriting hasn't improve yet though. Not as pretty as the butterfly. But yep, it's Latin. I have a Latin speaker penpal in Greenland. How cool is that?!
Sea Cucumber stamps
See the Latin words?

Note that not only Japanese stamps are gorgeous but those from the Philippines too. Two 40₱ and one 5₱ featuring some beautifully frightening sea creatures. Love them. :-)
Korean palace
Green Gate (초록의문)

Another ancient palace from the Joseon (조선) dynasty from the same collection from before. I am told there are ten of them! Again the adhesive machine stamp (₩680).

Postcard from: Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. (의정부시 경기도 대한민국)
Received: November 2011.
Language: Korean. :-)
Envelope: yes.
Stamp from Romania
Received on the front, to-send on the back

I received a long letter (5 sheets!) from a penpal in Romania. Aside from some gifts, there is nothing special to point out unless you think receiving post in Latin is unusual. :-)

At the back there is my reply. That is my handwriting nowadays -- hoping to improve it soon! Also illustrated some paragraphs as I will be sending some shells and don't know if they will arrive intact.

Letter from: Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Received: September 2011.
Language: Latin.
Stamps: one 3.30 Lei stamp with a drawing of two Imperial penguins.

Champagne letter
Champagne & party

Sent it yesterday to my niece who hasn't received a letter in her life. She may think post is something old-fashioned nobody uses nowadays except for sending bills from banks. She is now 17 and has moved to Salamanca (Spain) to study. I hope this decorated envelope surprises her and makes her smile. She must be nostalgic. Drawings by me and washi tape from Japan, of course.

Letter from Japan
Especially for me :-)

This is probably the most beautiful decorated letter I have ever received. It is a cherry gingham little paper box covered with plastic. A note with the address and "by air mail" stickers are attached to the paper box. The stamps and "small packet" label are on the plastic box. Seriously cute. ♥

Letter from: Shizuoka, Japan.
Received: July 2011.
Language: English.
Stamps: three ¥50 stamps featuring Sanrio character Hello Kitty dressed in different Japanese traditonal clothes from the Greetings - Summer 2011 series.

Cute lettersets
By Busquets

Finally I found them! I have been searching for some decent stationery for a year and all that I got was some coloured paper. When you have a Japanese penpal that is very humilliating, I must say. Today I went to a new shop and hidden among the girly backpacks there was a display full of letter sets. I only bought two (money talking here) but I know where to go from now on.

No cute memo pads though. They have vanished from Earth (Japan belongs to another planet).

Goong (Palace)
Goong (궁)

Beautiful ancient palace from the Joseon (조선) dynasty. Sadly the postcard doesn't especify which palace is it or where is it located. The sender doesn't know either. No remarkable stamp although the adhesive machine stamp (₩580) features a riding archer hunting deers in the background *cute*.

Updated April 2012: It is one of the Five Grand Palaces located in modern day Seoul, South Korea. My guessing is Changdeok Palace (창덕궁), UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Please feel free to correct me.

Postcard from: Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. (의정부시 경기도 대한민국)
Received: October 2011.
Languages: Spanish, Korean and English. :-)
Envelope: yes.
Welcome to my blog. I have always liked to have penpals and I love to receive postcards. That way I can travel from my desk, through the eyes of the sender. Always trying to improve my handwriting I send letters to friends who live far from here. Care to join me in this journey?
