Indian roses
Back in the old times, before internet, there was snailmail spam too. Chain letters, letters to beg for money, all kind of weird stuff came to my letterbox. Sometimes I could recognize my classmates' writing, sometimes it came from an exotic and very foreign country.

This one came from India in 2003. It was a missionary asking for a donation. Who knows where did they get my address? However this letter was special. It was the first time I received anything from India so these stamps were totally new for me. And it was also the first time a letter came by Sea Mail! I mean, it has a Sea Mail mark on it! I still think it is awesome and keep the letter carefully folded away from damage. :-)

It is interesting that it is marked book post too. We have "media mail" which is also called "book rate."
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I didn't pay attention to that mark because I didn't know what it meant. We don't have that rate in Spanish post service.
DeleteThank you for joining us today!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I like sharing & looking at others' stamps.
DeleteI've never heard of anyone getting mail like that all the way from India! At least it came with lovely stamps. When I was active in Bookcrossing, I used to send things surface mail and also printed paper rate as we call it here.
ReplyDeleteWe only have "normal" and "certified" mail in Spain, not even "air mail". Imagine my face when I read "sea mail"! Sounds quite exotic.
DeleteThis is the surprise of the week to me. My stamps from India area boring lot in comparison.
ReplyDeleteI am sure they aren't boring at all, Bob.
DeleteI'm not surprised that you have cherished this!
ReplyDeleteIt was on its way to the recycling bin when I thought it would be a pity not keeping the stamps. Then, when I was going to cut the stamps I thought the envelope was interesting enough. In the end I also saved the letter!
DeleteAt least you got a lovely stamp and interesting mark from this spam!
ReplyDeleteIt is the only spam letter I saved but also the only one I have received since 2003. Now I wonder if older ones were this interesting and should I have kept them too...
DeleteWell worth keeping the whole, special rates like this seem to be disappearing. Years ago I used to receive a book list from a bookseller in India (on very lightweight shiny paper), no idea why. The mystery of post.
ReplyDeleteAgree! The magic & the mystery of post.
