Diagonal 46
Diagonal 46 handmade card

From time to time, there is someone who prefers receiving handmade cards and I really enjoy doodling a bit. I had this piece of good quality paper with a sample print of a design from my University years. It's good to relax drawing meaningless abstract flowers... ♪
My teacher used to say he could spot one of my works at first sight because they had elegant mix of colours. Back them, yellow and gray was one of my favourites -- I still think it is.

On the flip side, a poem by Antonio Machado on yellow paper.
Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino, y nada más;
caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante, no hay camino,
sino estelas en la mar.
Sun and Moon
Sun and Moon

What would you do if you were to send a postcard to a two years old girl you don't know? I put it in an envelope, added some colourful notes and made some nice drawings on the cover. And included a fragance sample for her mom too, of course. Cute, isn't it?

Quill and ink
Quill & ink

I decorated (and sent) another letter this week. Not in Latin, if you're curious. Plain English this time. A black ink drawing on an airmail classic envelope that I hope my penpal will like. Although I have my fountain pen back and repaired I found out that the standard cartridges are too big for it and I ended using the old school pen again. Will buy an inkwell soon to refill my Waterman 'expensive'  pen because I prefer its smaller flexible nib both for writing and drawing.

Doodling

Yes, we put the sender's address on the back of the envelope in Spain. Addressee on the front, sender on the back. No place for mistakes. hehe. I was feeling artistic that day.
Lion letter-box
Roar! Feed me letters!

Gorgeous stamp featuring an open-mouthed lion with a castle on its head 19th century letter-box. No idea where it is located although I have spotted some similar in Alicante and Valencia. I sent this stamp to Japan.

Updated 12/1/12:

Palmeral
Palm grove
This is the second Spanish postcard I send to Greenland. This one is from my hometown and shows three different views of the palm grove (UNESCO World Heritage Site). I didn't take any picture of the other one before I sent it but it was nice too.

Butterfly stamp
Charaxes iasius
And this is the stamp that is now being sold in Spain for European post. I really like it when they feature animals and nature (and include their scientific name!). My handwriting hasn't improve yet though. Not as pretty as the butterfly. But yep, it's Latin. I have a Latin speaker penpal in Greenland. How cool is that?!
Stamp from Romania
Received on the front, to-send on the back

I received a long letter (5 sheets!) from a penpal in Romania. Aside from some gifts, there is nothing special to point out unless you think receiving post in Latin is unusual. :-)

At the back there is my reply. That is my handwriting nowadays -- hoping to improve it soon! Also illustrated some paragraphs as I will be sending some shells and don't know if they will arrive intact.

Letter from: Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Received: September 2011.
Language: Latin.
Stamps: one 3.30 Lei stamp with a drawing of two Imperial penguins.

Champagne letter
Champagne & party

Sent it yesterday to my niece who hasn't received a letter in her life. She may think post is something old-fashioned nobody uses nowadays except for sending bills from banks. She is now 17 and has moved to Salamanca (Spain) to study. I hope this decorated envelope surprises her and makes her smile. She must be nostalgic. Drawings by me and washi tape from Japan, of course.
