U.S. parcel post · 50 cents

Stamp-themed postcards! Aren't they pretty? This was a 50 cents old stamp from the USA featuring a dairy farm. It came from Wisconsin and was sent by a Postcrosser who is on 10 top senders from this country (which, in my opinion, given the large number of users, is quite impressive).

USA stamps
Legends of Baseball 2000 (top) & birds (bottom)

On the flip side, these amazing sets of stamps: Legends of Baseball issued in 2000 on the top (Eddie Collins and Jackie Robinson), facial value 33 cts, and birds from the Wildlife from Canadian-United States Border sheet on the bottom (mallard, Canada goose and blue jay), 13 cts each, issued in 1978 for the Canadian International Philatelic Exhibition. Wow! I feel lucky today
As a 1978 girl, I am touched. ♥

Postcard from: Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA.
Received: May 2012.
Language: English.
Envelope: no.
Stamps: two 33 cts Legends of Baseball (2000) and three 13 cts birds from wildlife series (1978).

Thank you very much, J. Tills!

San Francisco
Victorian Houses

Danielle went out for holidays too and sent me this wonderful card of San Francisco's famous Victorian houses and city skyline. The lighting of this picture is just amazing because despite having the cold colours on the front and the warm ones on the back you don't miss the perspective at all.

Postcard from: San Francisco, California, USA.
Received: August 2012.
Language: English.
Envelope: no.
Stamps: $1.05 amish carriage at Pensilvannia county stamp. ♥

Thank you very much!!
Leisure
Leisure

Being a woman who loves to read I wonder why this is the only reading woman card I have. Probably because I have never seen any before meeting Danielle.  All the postcards I knew were the childish birthday ones (which I dislike), the Christmas ones (which I have stopped receiving because nobody sends old fashioned postcards anymore) and the touristic ones (which I love to buy when I am visiting any place). Luckily for me, she was willing to share one from her collection and recently I got a neat scan of the card to share. Some scratches from its trip across the ocean can be seen but doesn't it make it more lovable? If only I could spend my days calmly reading by the window!

US Forever & American stuff
Left: American Toleware; centre: Cars; right: Lunar New Year (Dragon) & bottom: American Clock

She never disappoints me with her choice of stamps. Lucky girl! Along with my beloved coffeepot from America Toleware and banjo clock from American Clock series, two forever stamps: Cars from 2011 series of Disney-Pixar characters and Lunar New Year of the Dragon from 2012. Love them all! ♥

Postcard from: Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
Received: March 2012.
Language: English, of course.
Envelope: no.
Stamps: two forever stamps, Cars and Lunar New Year (Dragon) and two American series stamps, 10c toleware and 5c clock.
USS Arizona Memorial
Pearl Harbor

I am not a patriotic fan and moreover, as a pacifist, I am not a military fan. But then, there is a time for everything and I understand the need and reason for making a memorial of such a dreadful place -- same goes for opening Auschwitz concentration camp to visitors. For me, this postcard is only another touristic spot, probably one that I wouldn't plan to visit if I had other places to go as a national park or a museum. To the sender, it means a lot. As a military person who had experienced September 11th, she can perfectly imagine how people felt in 1941. I love that she sent something so meaningful for her, even if for me it is just a piece of a foreign country's history (Spain was neutral during WWI and WWII and we don't even have a memorial day).

This is what you can read on the back of the card:
The Memorial straddles the sunken hull of the battleship USS Arizona and commemorates the December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The Memorial was dedicated in 1962, and became a National Park Service area in 1980. The USS Arizona is the final resting place for many of the ship's 1,177 crewmen who lost their lives on December 7, 1941. The 184-foot-long Memorial structure spanning the mid-portion of the sunken battleship consists of trhee main sections: the entry and assembly rooms, a entral area designed for ceremonies and general observation, and the shrine room, where the names of those killed on the Arizona are engraved on the marble wall.

A few days after I received this, I watched From Here to Eternity on TV. Wasn't that a funny coincidence?

It came with the standard stamp for international shipping, the Amish carriage one. For once I wasn't so pleased to see it (but only a little, I really love it). Wouldn't a flag stamp had been a perfect match for this card?

Postcard from: Columbus, Ohio, USA.
Received: April 2012.
Language: English (obvious).
Envelope: no.
Stamps: one $1.05 Lancaster county with Amish carriage.

Thanks, Debbie!

Cherry Blossom Viewing (detail)
Cherry Blossom Viewing (detail)

This is a detail from a Japanese six-panel screen from the Edo period, circa 1700-1800, called Cherry Blossom Viewing. Ink, colours and gold on paper. The original piece is exhibited at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum / Chong-Moon Lee Center for Asian Art and Culture, in California (USA). Danielle was kind enough to send me this postcard at the beginning of the spring. She bought this one so it would match the stamps!

Cherry blossom Centennial Forever
Cherry Blossom Centennial (top), American Toleware (bottom left) & Clock (right)

About the Cherry Blossom Centennial stamps:

In 1912 Japan gave 3,000 cherry trees to the United States, which were planted round the Tidal Basin in the nation’s capital. In artist Paul Rogers’s design for the se-tenent stamps, blossoming trees arch over a family on a stroll with two girls dressed in bright kimonos, the Washington Monument in the background. In the stamp on the right, the Jefferson Memorial is the backdrop for sightseers under a canopy of pink blooms.
I am glad she didn't have to split the stamps up! They look very beautiful together. Where I live we have almond trees. They blossom early, usually around February, and the sight of them is just breath-taking. Those ornamental cherry trees blooming and reflecting on the water must be just an amazing view!

This postcard's theme: Japanese cherry blossoms.

Postcard from: Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
Received: April 2012.
Language: English.
Envelope: no.
Stamps: one Cherry Blossom Centennial 'Forever' stamps (both sides), one American Toleware 5c and one American clock 10c.
Nebraska
West & center part of the state

Nebraska became the 37th state to be admitted to the Union on March 1, 1867. Today, Nebraska is one of the country's leading producers of feed crops and livestock.

Omaha
Downtown area

This is the downtonwn area of Omaha: business disctrict to the right and commercial shopping district to the left.

Nebraska State Capitol
The Nebraska state capitol

Lincoln is the capitol city of Nebraska, about 45 min drive from Omaha. It is a small college town -- University of Nebraska. They have the country's only unicameral legislature.

Joslyn Art Museum
Joslyn Art Museum

The local art museum, Joslyn Art Museum, is located in 2200 Dodge Street. They have a good collection of Western American art and one of the Little Dancer sculptures of Degas. The glass sculpture in the window is done by glass artist Dale Chihuly. Free entrance on Saturday mornings!

Where the West begins...
Round up time (top) & herds of bufallo (bottom)

Nebraska, where the West begins, has lots of cattle ranches and exports beef. You still can see some buffalos in the countryside -- along with loads of cows!

Go green!
Go Green (left & centre), Rockefeller Center (top) & American Toleware (bottom)

All five postcards came together in an envelope safe and sound. These stamps made my day and put a big smile on my face. I am a huge fan of everything green, including the colour itself! I try to go green everyday and am glad to say that I follow both advices on the stamps: days are mostly sunny where I live so I can let nature do the work. Also, I just walk or take the bus everyday and share rides when I need to go somewhere farther. ♪
On the top right, a stamp of the Wisdom mural of the Rockefeller Center in New York City with a facial value of $1, and below the gorgeous coffeepot painted by Lou Nolan from the American series (American Toleware).

Postcard from: Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
Received: March 2012.
Language: English.
Envelope: yes.
Stamps: four. Two Forever USA Go Green, "share rides" & "let nature do the work"; one $1 Wisdom, Rockefeller Center, New York City and one 5c American Toleware.

Thank you very much for these cards, Danielle! ♥

San Francisco's cable cars
San Francisco's cable cars

Who hasn't heard of San Francisco's cable cars? Who hasn't seen these steep hills on TV and films? Now I have a little piece of them of my own. No need to get dizzy taking one of these cars, I can just enjoy the card. What a fantastic view of the Bay from the top of the hill!

US Stamps
American clocks (left) Purple Heart (centre) & Love (right)

My second card from the US also means second stamp. Three little stamps this time instead of one, including St. Valentine's stamp from this year series (yay!). A "Forever" stamp too. These plus the Lancaster county one makes my eyes bright of joy.

Postcard from: Sacramento, California, United Stats of America.
Received: February 2012.
Language: English.
Envelope: no.
Stamps: three. One 10c "American clocks", one forever stamp "Purple Heart" and one 2012 St. Valentine's "Love".

Thank you very much, Ruth!

Route 66
Route 66

The historic mainstreet of (North) America: Route 66. Who hasn't heard of it? First postcard from the USA. Typical, I cannot deny it. Different. It surprised me a lot. Although the Route 66 was removed from the Highways sytem in 1985 it remains as an historic route through several states. The sender lives in the Route's birthplace in Missouri and I guess she knows it well.

Lancaster county
Lancaster county, Pennsylvania

Love, love, love this stamp! ♥ See that cute carriage on the road? The postmark hides it a little but it is still visible. My first USA stamp, by the way. My American friend always sends her parcels via registered mail and they have that sticker with the weight and the money paid. Did I say I love this stamp?

Postcard from: Springfield, Missouri, USA.
Received: February 2012.
Language: English.
Envelope: no.
Stamps: one lovely $1.05 Lancaster county landscape (with Amish carriage!) stamp.

Thank you, Bonnie!
